Stories of Wisdom For Life Lessons – Day 38

September 17th, 2009 Post a comment Read comments

We all love a good story.

Stories that carry a lesson for life are my favorites.

When I find good some short stories that carry a moral or a message for personal development, I will post them here for you. Enjoy!

I’ve included one of my favorite wisdom stories above the LOG IN area, to show an example of the kinds of tales for life lessons that will be collected here for you.

You can read many more of these life empowering messages after you LOG IN…

Has Life Handed You A Long-Handled Spoon?

Swami was having a conversation with Lord Shiva one day and said Lord, “I would like to know what heaven and hell are like.”

Lord Shiva led the Swami to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the Swami looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the Swami’s mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. However, the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The Swami shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. Lord Shiva said, “You have seen hell”.

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The Swami said, “I don’t understand”.

“It is simple”, said Lord Shiva, “It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves”.

Here’s the list of collected wisdom stories, added here as I find them. You will not be able to access these without being LOGGED IN:

1. Has Life Handed You A Long-Handled Spoon? 2. Daddy, may I please borrow $25? 3. If Anything Can Stop You, Let It!
4. The Hundredth Monkey 5. The Multiplier Effect 6. Muddy Waters
I’ll be returning soon with more…!

    @Shari
Thank you Shari. Yes, one of my favorite quotes is ‘A rising tide raises all boats…John F. Kennedy’. Keep stepping forward! Cheers, Thea

Thank you for these stories, Thea! I especially liked the one about the mother rescuing her baby. It really helped inspire me today to continue going after my ‘baby’ even though I am sometimes surrounded by people who have given up hope. I am also reminded by the other two stories — that to help others succeed brings about our own success – and also to continue to do my part in maintaining an ‘attitude of grattitude’ and a positive belief system, as that will benefit others, too (not just myself).

    Shari
